According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett , Colorado Buffaloes freshman cornerback Cormani McClain plans to enter the transfer portal.
McClain was a five-star recruit coming out of high school. He was the No. 13 overall recruit in the 2023 class and the No. 1 cornerback in the 2023 class. McClain was one of head coach Deion Sanders’ marquee recruits and his departure has caused many Colorado fans to attack him.
After learning that cornerback Cormani McClain was entering the transfer portal, some Colorado Buffaloes fans took to social media to express their disappointment.
A graphic X/Twitter “spaces” chat featured many fans personally and vocally coming at McClain for his desire to leave the program and head coach Deion Sanders.

While McClain did take a lot of heat from Colorado Buffaloes fans for his decision to leave, many non-Colorado fans supported his decision to leave.
Many claim that he will get better development and support from another coaching staff. Others are just happy to see the Buffaloes lose high-profile recruits.
Shouldn’t have gone there in the first place

McClain isn’t the only high-level player leaving Colorado during this transfer portal window. starting offensive lineman Savion Washington also plans on entering the transfer portal, meaning the Buffaloes will have an entirely new offensive line.
On McClain’s side of the ball, the Buffaloes also lost defensive linemen Chazz Wallace and Devee Harris. Both Wallace and Harris started in a few games for Colorado in 2023.
Fellow top-tier defensive back Myles Slusher is also leaving Colorado. Similar to McClain, Slusher was the top 247 Sports safety in his recruiting class.
Colorado is also losing wide receiver Tar’varish Dawson, defensive back Jaden Milliner-Jones and offensive linemen Isaiah Jatta and David Conner.
Rumors that Cormani McClain was not wanted by Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders are swirling
In an article from On3, Sanders hinted that McClain was not working hard enough to warrant getting extended playing time. He said McClain was not showing up to meetings on time or watching film.
“Study and prepare,” Sanders told reporters in September 2023 when asked what McClain needed to improve on to see more playing time. “Be on time for meetings, show up to meetings. Understand the scheme. I check film time from each player so I can see who’s preparing, so if I don’t see that, you would be a fool to put somebody out there who’s not prepared. That goes for all our players.”
These statements regarding McClain have caused many fans to think that his departure is not something Sanders is too upset about.
Prime said that boy too soft for him

This is the kid who didn’t want to work hard?

Let’s all be honest for a second… we seen his play after long anticipation; he had more bad plays than good ones… Coach Prime was right about him… Sometimes these 5 ⭐️ 4⭐️ athletes have bn pampered & praised so highly until they already think they’re a Pro & become uncoachable

McClain’s previous status as the No. 1 cornerback in the nation will likely garner a lot of interest from Power-5 teams across the nation. Many speculate that he will go to the Miami Hurricanes as that is who he was committed to before he flipped to Colorado.
