'I don’t think there’s five better…' Warriors star Brandin Podziemski boldly lays claim to All-Rookie 1st team

Warriors rookie, Brandin Podziemski had a fantastic start to his NBA career. He has proven to be a valuable asset to the Dubs and is also a great shooting backup for the team. Podziemski was drafted 19th in the 2023 NBA Draft.

As the regular season has come to an end, awards as well as the first-team selections have started to build momentum. The NBA All-Rookie first team has quite some candidates including the Rookie of the Year nominees, Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren, Ausar Thompson, and others. Recently, Podziemski shared his thoughts on his chances of being selected in the All-Rookie first team.

I don't think there's five better. I think deservedly should be on the first team and I think Trayce should be on the second team. Like I said before, if you could re-draft, you wouldn't take me at 19 and won't take Trayce at 57... said Podziemski via SiriusXM NBA Radio

Podziemski’s teammate, Trayce Jackson-Davis has also been phenomenal for the Dubs. Jackson-Davis was drafted 57th in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Wizards, though he was later traded to the Warriors. Both the rookies have had a great start, though as Podziemski wants his name in the All-Rookie first team, there are quite a few players that stand in his way.

The Rookie ladder has been dominated by Wembanyama since Week 1. While there were some changes throughout the season, Wembanyama managed to top the ladder for three straight months. However, during Weeks 16-20, Podziemski had his name highlighted on the fourth and fifth on the Rookie ladder. He averaged 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting over 45% from the field.

For the impact he brings to the Dubs when the starters are not on the floor, Podziemski has done exceptionally well on his part. However, when it comes to the All-Rookie first team, some players have done much better for their teams. Chet Holmgren and the Thunder have topped the West and are on their way to the playoffs. Jaime Jaquez Jr. has been pretty solid for the Heat. Brandon Miller of the Hornets had a highlight of a season, being one of the top scorers on the team.

There are many players to consider apart from Podziemski, though the rookie does seem pretty confident with his chances and his abilities, which is also great. It will be interesting to see Podziemski make the All-Rookie team, first or second, as he truly deserves.
